Fun with Monotype

Had so much fun teaching today! In fact its what I love most about teaching. While showing one of my students how to create a monotype she picked up a tool and used it differently than I did. I loved what she was doing and tried doing it her way. I ended up with these two crazy bird prints. The color was added using watercolor pencils. It was a good day!

  1. The mono prints are wonderful, love that ribbon-y shape. Do you work on this along with your students?

    Just curious

  2. Thanks Stephanie. Yesterday I did work along with this student. It was a small class of seniors and everyone was busy doing their own thing which allowed me to keep working along side her. In larger classes I never get to do this.

  3. karen,

Both the results are quite stunning! I remember one quote about printmaking I read somewhere, it says 'Printmaking-It's not what you want, it's what you get'. so apt!:)

  4. It's great when you can learn a new trick, isn't it? You know, when I first saw these images, I thought they looked like dramatic stormy seas. They also have a graffiti feel to them.

  5. It's sort of like "happy accidents". I love mono prints and I like the subtle addition of color you applied with the watercolor pencils.
