Sunday Sketches; Abstract Art

Feeling Sad

Sometimes when you put yourself and your artwork out in the world you face rejection, and it's not always easy to except. It's hard not to feel sad. I haven't been creating much art lately feeling rather sorry for myself. So it's time to start moving forward, and painting always makes me feel better. ;)

To cheer myself up I've been taking long walks with my dogs and working abstractly. My goal for the end of the school year is to just have fun! My students are loosening up with Abstraction; Line, Color, Shape, Texture and Pattern. There is no pressure only that they try and have fun, and I'm having fun right along with them.

Minnie Driver
My sketch for today is a controlled scribble mess of my Miniature Schnauzer, Minnie Driver. She's such a sassy little girl that always makes me laugh and smile.  My students thought the bottom of the drawing looked like musical notes. My response to them was "It must be my inter voice telling me to sing out loud while I paint." They weren't too sure about that one. haha .

Have a great day.

  1. I love Minnie Driver. She is so cute and your art is incredible. The end of the school year is always such a stressful time. I taught for many years and now am lucky enough to facilitate a workshop that I created for teachers. Our last ten weeks were spent finding ways to cope with all the work and stress that comes with the end of the year.

I hope that you have a wonderful summer filled with lots of time to paint and to do all of the things that you don't have time to do throughout the school year.

  5. Rejection is such a hard thing to take. Even when things seem to be going well, one rejection can deflate my bubble! But something good always comes along to take the sting away! And I have found that when I have been rejected, I realize later that it was a good thing. Hope you have a great summer to have fun with your art!

  9. Yes, hearing rejection on one's work is not always easy. I've had to face a few already this year. Sigh But the key is to get up and keep pushing forward...just like you're doing. :)

  10. I love all the details and colors on your "feeling sad" picture. And I think you wouldn't have created this picture if you wouldn't have been sad. (I'm not quite sure if my English was correct now) ... however ... I hope you do not feel sad now but although you painted your abstract while feeling sad I love it. Sometimes very good things result from sadness. I also love this cute little dog as well! He looks so cuddly!
