White Woman in the Suburbs

For the next five weeks I will be learning the art of Graffiti.
As a high school art teacher I'm always looking for ways to connect with my students. As good fortune would have it, Alisa Burke was offering her Graffiti Chic online class.
What a great way to use up paint, get messy and have fun as the school year comes to an end.
Last week I started Alisa's class and explained to my students what I was up to. They have been watching my attempts at urban art and especially enjoy critiquing my process. Really what does a white woman from the suburbs know about graffiti? Not much so I even did some research on the history of Graffiti. Would you believe it has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.
Hope you enjoy my endeavors from Week One.

  1. I did not realize that graffiti dates back to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Did you find any pictures? It would be interesting to compare how ancient graffiti looks to modern graffiti styles.
